Settings
Every tab in Murage's app Settings, in the order the app shows them, and what each option does.
App Settings hold everything that applies to all your bots: your profile, keys, engines, channels, backups, House Rules and About me. Settings for a single bot live in Bot settings.
The Search box at the top of the tab list filters tabs by name and by the settings inside them. Press Escape to clear the search, and again to close Settings.
Most tabs appear only in the desktop app. From your phone or another browser you see General and Usage only, so keys never show on another device.
General
- Profile: Your name and Your email. Your name shows in the sidebar. Changes save as you leave each field.
- Get set up: Run setup again takes you back to your Chief of Staff and the guided first run. Anything already done stays done.
- Starter profiles: choose a starting team, Review profile, then Import starter profile. You get a separate copy; your current Chief is unchanged and the new bots get no permissions. Imported routines stay paused until you turn them on.
- Appearance: Light, Dark or Automatic (follows your system). Remembered on this computer.
- Notifications: tick Needs your attention (approvals, questions, takeover requests), Task completed, Task failed and Show notification previews. Play a sound turns notification sounds on or off for this computer only. Quiet hours mutes everything between a Start and End time in a named Time zone such as Europe/London; muted notifications aren't replayed. Choose Save notifications to apply.
- Startup & background:
- Keep running when the window closes: Murage stays open in the menu bar, tray or Dock. Quit stops it.
- Start when I sign in: off until you choose it. On a Mac you may need to approve Murage in your system's Login Items settings.
- Channel turns: Maximum turn length, in minutes, for every bot turn in a channel. The default is 5 minutes, and you can set 1 to 1,440. Direct chats use a separate inactivity watchdog instead.
- Language: System follows your computer's language, or pick one. Only part of the interface is translated so far.
- Tool calls: Show tool calls adds a named chip to the conversation for each tool a bot runs. It's off by default. Errors and bot-to-bot messages show either way.
- Updates: shows the Murage version you're running and Check for updates. When an update is ready, Download, then Restart and install. Installing is always your choice. See Updates.
- Diagnostics: Export Diagnostics… saves a text file with versions, which settings are on or off, and a redacted tail of the server log. Read it before you share it.
- Usage analytics: the switch for anonymous product events. Today's releases send no usage analytics. See Privacy and usage analytics.
Backups
Needs the installed desktop app. Murage saves an encrypted daily copy of your settings, conversations, files and channel history.
- Turn on backups: pick a backup folder. Murage makes your recovery key, saves it outside that folder, switches daily backups on and takes the first backup straight away. I already have a recovery key lets you use a key file you already keep.
- Save a copy…: put a second copy of your recovery key somewhere secure. Without it, nobody can open your backups.
- Back up now: Murage closes and reopens its window to take the backup. It won't start while work is running.
- Also back up when Murage is closed: runs the daily backup while you're signed in but the app is closed. Works on a Mac and on Linux (
.deband AppImage). Not available on Windows yet. - Back up before installing an in-app update.
- Backup limits: Maximum backup size (GiB), Maximum run time (minutes) and Late start allowed (hours). Turn off daily backups before changing them.
- Off-site copy: keep a second encrypted copy on S3-compatible storage or an SFTP server (NAS, home server or VPS). Murage makes the off-site password with Create off-site password, and Test connection sets up the backup store for you. For SFTP, Murage makes its own SSH key for the server and asks you once to trust the server's fingerprint. You can switch on Enable automatic uploads and choose how many daily, weekly and monthly copies to keep.

Experimental
Early features that may change while we test them. Both are off unless you switch them on.
- Teach a skill: record a workflow, use
/learn, or ask a supported bot to run/create-verification-skill. Every change waits for your review. See /learn skills. - Built-in browser: lets supported bots use a browser tab you can watch and take over. It's for Mac and Linux; on Windows it's temporarily unavailable. Each bot also has its own browser switch in Bot settings. See Built-in browser.
- Browser profiles: appears once the browser is on or a profile exists. A profile saves a browser sign-in that several bots can share. Create one from a bot's Browser tab, then rename or Delete it here. Deleting signs out and erases that profile's browser data.
Models
- Flux Router: one key for Flux Router models. Replace key, Disconnect, or test the connection. Model requests use your Flux Router balance. See Flux Router.
- Model connections: paste one model API key (the provider is recognized on your computer, or you pick it), add an optional Connection name, and choose Add connection. Each connection lists its chat models with context size and price where the provider publishes them. Untick Use connection to set one aside. API usage is billed to that provider, separately from engine subscriptions.
- Existing/default connections: update keys your existing setups already use. Saving can reload engines and interrupt running tasks.
- Local models: Murage checks your computer for a running model server. Add a server for one elsewhere on your network, with an Address, optional Name and optional API key. See Local models.
Engines
Your engines lists each engine with its status, such as "Detected · signed in". From here you install, connect and update engines. Where an engine isn't installed, Murage shows the one-line install command to copy. You can Enable or Disable an engine; changing this reloads engines and interrupts running turns. You can also point an engine at a different command-line install.
Claude accounts lets you add more than one Claude sign-in and give each an Account name. See Engines and Claude accounts.
Tools & Connections
Keys for search, images, transcription and connected apps. The apps themselves live under Tools → Connected apps.
AssemblyAI transcription: live narration for recorded skills (an experimental feature).
Web search: pick a Search provider:
- Engine search first, free backup if needed
- Free search: Parallel, then DuckDuckGo (no key needed)
- Flux Router, with your Flux key
- Tavily, Exa or Firecrawl, with your own key
- Off: no Murage web search

Image generation: choose a connection and an image model so bots can make or edit pictures. One image per bot turn, and you approve each request. See Image generation.
Connected apps key: your own key for connected apps, instead of Flux Router, for Gmail, Slack, Notion, GitHub and 1,500+ more. See Connected apps.
Box API key: a hosted Linux computer with a desktop and terminal for your bots. Box is a paid service after its trial. See Cloud computer.
Self-hosted VPS: the SSH config alias of your own Linux server. Murage uses your normal SSH setup and stores no keys or passwords. See Your own VPS.
Advanced: Add or replace keys: paste several keys at once (for example, lines like
OPENAI_API_KEY=…), then review which ones to add or replace.
Messaging apps
One card each for Telegram, Slack and Discord. Each follows the same steps: create your own bot or app, save its credentials, then Pair with Chief. Approvals come to Telegram with a tap; Slack and Discord approvals stay in Murage. See Channels.
Phone
- Enable WebUI: runs the part of Murage that answers your phone, tablet or another computer. When it's off, nothing listens.
- Allow remote access: reach Murage over your tailnet with Tailscale.
- Sign in on another device: scan the code, or type it.
- Paired devices: every device that can use this Murage. Revoking one ends its sessions straight away. Allow computer view is set per device.
- Recent activity: when each device last reached this computer.
Local VM
A private desktop for your bots in a container on your computer. Setup walks you through the container runtime and the one-time desktop download, then Create Local VM and Start Local VM.
- Isolation: Shared keeps one desktop for all bots. Per bot gives each bot its own container and workspace.
- Safety and storage: Maximum per-bot desktops. Each running desktop may use up to 4 GB and 2 CPUs.

Skills
Every skill your bots can follow, grouped into Built-in, Library and Your skills. Search or pick a topic, and read any skill before you use it. Import skill adds one of your own; imported skills get a Skill Guard scan. See Skills and Skill guard.
House rules
Rules every bot follows, written once in your own words. Use house rules turns them on or off. Some of Murage's own rules are Always on, even with house rules off. Save your edits, Undo changes, or Reset to default. See House rules.
About me
A short profile of you: who you are, what you do, how you like to work, and anything every bot should know, up to 4,000 characters. The first time you open it, Murage starts it with what it already knows about you. Save your edits or Undo changes; saving it empty clears it.
Your bots read About me only on your own turns. They never read it on turns started by other people (someone messaging your bot on Telegram, Slack or Discord), by webhooks, or by a message Murage can't confirm came from you. To leave it out for one bot, switch off the About me row in that bot's What shapes list.
Usage
Tokens and cost per bot, added up from every finished turn, with Turns, Tokens and Cost for each bot and for All bots. Only engines that report a price show a cost. See Usage and cost.
