System requirements
Which Macs, Windows PCs and Linux computers run Murage, what the app needs from them, which parts use real memory, and how to tell the official download from a copy.
Supported systems
- Mac. Apple silicon and Intel, as two separate downloads, both a DMG signed and notarized by Apple. Open the Apple menu, then About This Mac, to see which chip you have.
- Windows. 64-bit x64 only. The signed installer puts Murage under your own user account, with no administrator prompt. There is no Windows on ARM download.
- Ubuntu 24.04. 64-bit Intel and AMD, as a
.debor an AppImage, each with a checksum file on the releases page. - Other Linux. The
.deblists dependencies that also resolve on Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12, and the AppImage is the portable option for other 64-bit Intel and AMD distributions, but we have not published install steps for any of them or tested beyond 24.04, and ARM Linux is not supported.
On a computer or device with no native download, such as a Chromebook or an ARM machine, you can still use the full workspace in a browser when Murage runs on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer you leave on. See Murage on your phone.
Memory, disk and operating system version
We have not published a minimum amount of memory or disk space, or a minimum operating system version. Use a current version of your system. The app itself is light. A Local VM desktop uses real memory and CPU for as long as it runs. Smart memory search needs a one-time local model download. A local model running on your own machine needs the most, and on a smaller computer it competes with the Local VM and the memory model for the same memory, so stop the Local VMs you are not using before you blame the model. If you want a firm number before you buy a computer, write to support@murage.ai with what you plan to run.
WSL and virtual machines
Murage is built and documented for a normal desktop. It has been run under Windows Subsystem for Linux, but there are no install steps for it and we treat it as untested. On a Windows PC, use the Windows installer.
What else Murage needs
The Fuigo engine comes in the box, so Murage itself runs without Node.js, npm or anything else installed. A bot still needs something to think with: a signed-in Claude Code or Codex, a model key, or Flux Router. Installing Claude Code, Codex or another npm-based engine through Murage uses npm, so that needs Node.js. See Connect an AI engine.
Is the download the real one?
You see
Mac says Murage can't be opened, or warns about an unidentified developerDo this
The official Mac download is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without a warning. If you see one, the file is probably not the official one. Delete it and download Murage again from the download page.
You see
Windows warns about an unknown publisherDo this
The Windows installer is signed. If Windows still warns you, check that the file came from the download page or the releases page. If it came from anywhere else, delete it and download it again.
You see
Checking an Ubuntu downloadDo this
Ubuntu packages come with SHA-256 checksums in SHA256SUMS-ubuntu-x64.txt, next to the downloads on the releases page. See Ubuntu notes for the one-line check.
Don't buy a bigger computer for Murage before you have tried it. With Flux Router or a hosted engine, the thinking happens elsewhere and the app itself is the easy part.
