What is Murage
A desktop app where a team of AI bots works for you, led by a Chief of Staff you talk to.
Murage is a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Ubuntu. You talk to one bot, your Chief of Staff, and it builds and runs a team of specialist bots for you. Each bot has its own name, job, engine, memory, skills and permissions.
Your first bot is called Ember. Ember is your Chief of Staff. You can rename it at any time.
What you can do with it
- Hand off real work: clear an inbox, write a morning brief, research a question, watch competitors.
- Build teams of bots, each with a team lead, or start from 68 ready-made team templates.
- Run work on a schedule with routines, or start it from a webhook.
- Call a bot and talk to it, or get a voice note back.
- Message your Chief from Telegram, Slack or Discord.
- Let a bot use its own browser (experimental, Mac and Linux), a separate desktop, or your computer, with your permission.
It runs on your computer
Murage is local-first. Your bots, conversations, memory and settings live in a folder on your own computer (~/.murage). The app itself is free and open source under the AGPL-3.0 license.
The AI thinking is done by an engine you choose for each bot: Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, Grok Build, a local model, the bundled Fuigo engine and more. You bring your own subscription or key, and the model bill is between you and that provider. See Connect an AI engine.
You stay in charge
Every bot runs at an approval level you pick: Ask, Auto, Full access or No limits. New bots start on Ask. On Full access, a bot stops before messaging anyone new, posting publicly, paying, or deleting outside its folder, unless you have allowed it for that task. On Hermes and other ACP engines, Ask and the stop line cover only what the engine asks Murage about: shell commands and file edits. Read Permissions and the stop line.
What it is not
- It is not a hosted service. Your computer has to be on and Murage has to be running for routines, Telegram and other background work.
- There is no native iPhone or Android app yet; one is coming. You can open Murage in your phone's browser, and message your Chief from Telegram, Slack or Discord.
- It has one workspace per installation.
