Use Murage on your phone

Murage can open in the browser on your phone, a tablet or another laptop. You get the same bots, conversations and approvals as on your computer. There's no app to install from an app store: you scan a code and Murage opens in the browser.

Your computer does the work, so it has to be on, with Murage running.

Two ways to connect#

• Over Tailscale (recommended). Tailscale is a free private network for your own devices. With it, your phone reaches Murage from anywhere, and nothing is exposed to the public internet. Install Tailscale on your computer and your phone, and sign both in to the same account (your "tailnet"). Turn on MagicDNS in Tailscale.
• On the same Wi-Fi. Without Tailscale, your phone can pair while it's on the same network as your computer. It only works at home or in the office, and only on a network that lets the two devices see each other.

1. Turn on the WebUI#

1. On your computer, open Settings → Phone.
2. Switch on Enable WebUI. This runs the part of Murage that answers other devices. When it's off, nothing listens.

The steps at the top show where you are: Open the browser door, Get the address, Reach it from anywhere. If Murage says it can't find Tailscale, check that Tailscale is signed in, then choose Check Tailscale again.

2. Pair your phone#

1. Under Sign in on another device, choose Show me the code.
2. On your phone, point the camera at the QR code. Murage opens in the phone's browser, signed in.
3. No camera, or pairing another laptop? Open the address Murage shows in that device's browser and type the code.

Each code signs in one device, then it's spent. It also expires after a short time. If it runs out, create a new one.

3. Add it to your home screen#

Murage works as an installable web app. In your phone's browser, use Add to Home Screen (Safari on iPhone: the Share button; Chrome on Android: the menu). It then opens full screen like an app.

Optional: a secure address from anywhere#

Allow remote access puts Murage behind Tailscale's secure HTTPS address for your tailnet. Murage asks you to confirm first. Once it's on, any device signed in to your tailnet can open the address and sign in with a code. It stays on, even after a restart, until you switch it off.

It's still only your tailnet. Nothing is exposed to the public internet.

Manage your devices

Paired devices lists every device that can use this Murage. Recent activity shows when each one last reached your computer.

• Revoke a device to end its sessions straight away.
• Allow computer view gives that device full interactive access to a bot's computer view. Turn it on only for devices you trust.

What stays on the desktop

Some choices can only be made on the computer running Murage:

• Turning on Full access or No limits for a bot.
• Phone setup, pairing and revoking devices.

Everything else, including chatting with your bots and answering approvals, works from the phone.

Good to know

• There's no native iPhone or Android app yet; one is coming. Today the browser is the phone app.
• Your phone talks to your own computer, not to a Murage server, when you pair over Tailscale or Wi-Fi.
• During the first-run welcome, Murage may also offer to email you a one-time code to set up secure access. That route signs you in through Murage's account service. See Privacy and usage analytics.
• Routines and bots keep running on the computer, not the phone. If the computer sleeps, they wait.
