Discord

Pair your own Discord bot with your Chief of Staff and you can message your Chief from a Discord direct message. It answers there, including with voice notes. Approvals stay in Murage: answer them in the app, the Inbox, the menu bar or Telegram.

Murage must be running on your computer to receive messages. Messages sent while it's stopped may not be picked up later, so resend anything important once it's back.

This is different from Discord as a connected app, where bots post in your servers as a tool.

What you need#

• A Discord account.
• About ten minutes at the computer running Murage.
• A Chief of Staff in your workspace.

1. Create a Discord application bot#

In Settings → Messaging apps, the Discord card has a Private Discord app setup section, and Open Discord app settings takes you to the Discord Developer Portal. On Discord's side:

1. Create a new application.
2. Copy its Application ID from the General Information page.
3. On the Bot page, reset and copy the bot token. Treat it like a password.
4. Install the bot somewhere you control, such as your own server or your own account, so you can open a direct message with it.

Murage listens only for direct messages. It reads only DMs from the owner you set, and ignores server (guild) messages.

2. Save the bot token in Murage#

1. In the Discord card, under 1. Save credentials securely, paste the token into Bot token.
2. Choose Save credentials.

The token is stored encrypted on your computer and never shown again. You'll see "Credentials saved. Pairing has not started."

3. Choose your application and owner#

Under 2. Choose your application and owner, fill in:

• Application ID: from the Developer Portal.
• Owner user ID: your own Discord user ID. To copy it, turn on Developer Mode in Discord's settings, then right-click your name and copy your user ID.

Choose Save application details. Only this owner can pair and send messages to your Chief.

4. Pair with your Chief#

1. Under 3. Pair with Chief, choose Pair with Chief.
2. Murage shows a command: /pair followed by a long code. Choose Copy pairing command.
3. In Discord, open a direct message with your bot, as the owner above, and send it.

The code expires after 10 minutes. The status reads Waiting for your Discord message, then Connected to Chief.

5. Link the account to yourself

The first reply asks you to link this account before chatting. Open Team map, choose Manage memory, find the "Discord account" row under People and verified accounts, and choose This is my account. Then send your message again.

What works

• Text: message your Chief in the DM and it answers there.
• Voice: send your Chief a voice message and it replies with a voice message. Voice needs Flux Router credits or your own voice keys.
• Pictures and files: share these in Murage. The Discord DM is for talking to your Chief.

A reply comes back to Discord only for a message you sent from Discord. Work you start in Murage, and routines, report in the app.

Approvals stay in Murage

Discord approval buttons aren't supported. If you type "approve", "yes" or /approve, you'll get "Review approvals in Murage. Discord messages cannot approve actions." Answer requests in the app, the Inbox, the menu bar or Telegram.

If your Chief's default is Full access or No limits, Bot settings → Permissions has Also skip approvals for my messages from Telegram, Slack and Discord.

Limits

• One Discord bot, one direct message, one owner, your Chief only.
• Long replies show as a preview. Discord messages hold 2,000 characters, so a longer reply ends with "… Full response in Murage." Read the rest in the app.
• Up to three unfinished tasks from Discord at a time.
• Messages sent while Murage is stopped may not be recovered.

Change or remove it

Choose Revoke connection to stop. Your saved credentials stay. You need to revoke before changing the token, application or owner.

Troubleshooting

• "Save your Discord credentials": the bot token isn't saved yet.
• "Pairing code expired": choose Revoke connection, then Pair with Chief again.
• "Pairing could not start. Check that a Chief is selected...": check the token and both IDs are saved, and revoke any half-finished connection first.
• "Discord rejected the Gateway session. Check the bot token and application settings, then revoke and pair again.": the token is wrong or was reset. Revoke, save the current token, and pair again.
• "The credentials do not match the saved app identity.": the token belongs to a different application than the Application ID. Revoke, fix it, and pair again.
• "Your Chief changed. Revoke this connection, then pair with the current Chief.": do exactly that.
• "Automatic reconnect attempts stopped.": check your internet and the bot's access, then choose Retry connection.
• "Secure storage is unavailable in this window.": save credentials from the Murage desktop app, not a browser.
• "A reply delivery is uncertain. Check Discord before sending the message again.": look in Discord before repeating the request.
• You can't open a DM with the bot: Discord only lets you DM a bot you share a server with or have installed to your account. Install it first (step 1).
