Open-source license

Murage is free and open source software, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or (at your option) any later version (AGPL-3.0-or-later). The copyright holder is Ferrox Labs.

The full license is in the LICENSE file in the repository, and the attributions are in NOTICE.

What that means for you#

This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. The license text is what counts.

• Using Murage: you can install and use it for any purpose, personal or business, at no cost.
• Reading and changing it: you can read all the source code and modify it.
• Sharing it: if you distribute Murage or a modified version, you must make the corresponding source available under the same license.
• Running a modified version as a service: the "Affero" part means that if you modify Murage and let other people use it over a network, you must offer those users the source of your modified version too.

The license changed in 0.1.59#

Murage 0.1.59 moved to AGPL-3.0-or-later. Earlier versions were released under the Apache License 2.0, and those releases keep the license they were published under.

Contributions#

Contributions are licensed under the AGPL-3.0-or-later, and contributors sign a CLA. See Contributing.

OpenMausBot heritage#

Murage is a fork of OpenMausBot, copyright 2026 Milind Soni and the OpenMausBot contributors, licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The NOTICE file records this and lists the upstream work Murage has adapted, with the upstream pull request and commit for each.

Per NOTICE:

• Murage's common ancestor with OpenMausBot is the 0.1.44 source. Everything after that is selective adaptation, not parity.
• Murage has been substantially modified, including the product name, identifiers, configuration paths and network endpoints, replacing hosted service endpoints with Ferrox Labs infrastructure, and integration with Wayland Core.
• Murage is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the OpenMausBot project or its contributors.

Third-party components#

Murage bundles third-party software, such as the Cua Driver for computer control, backup tools and the Fuigo engine. Their licenses and notices are kept in the repository's LICENSES and third_party folders.

Library content

Skills and team packages in Murage's libraries carry their own license field. Library team packages are marked Apache-2.0, and each library skill states its license in its frontmatter.
