Updates

Murage checks for updates in the background and shows a banner when a newer version is ready. You can also choose Check for updates from the Murage icon in the menu bar or system tray.

Mac, Windows and the Ubuntu AppImage#

Murage downloads the update, then asks you to restart. It replaces itself and reopens.

Ubuntu .deb#

Murage never installs a system package itself, so it never asks for your administrator password. Instead it downloads and checks the package, copies the install command, and opens a terminal. Paste the command there and press Enter. The command looks like this:

sudo apt-get install -y '/home/you/.cache/murage-updater/pending/Murage-<version>-amd64.deb'

Then open Murage again.

If a terminal didn't open, the command is still on your clipboard. Open a terminal yourself and paste it. Use apt-get, not dpkg -i, so dependencies are handled.

The download keeps spinning#

Leave Murage open long enough for one full attempt, then quit and reopen it. If it's still stuck, download the latest version from the download page and install it over your current copy. Your conversations and settings aren't removed.

"Update waiting for backup"#

If you use backups, Murage may take a backup before it updates. Check Settings → Backups if it needs your attention.

Restarting doesn't update#

Quit Murage completely and open it again. If the version hasn't changed (see Settings → General), install the latest version by hand.

Only install Murage from the official download page or releases page. Don't install update files sent to you in a chat.
