pi
Run bots on the pi coding agent with the providers and keys you've set up in pi itself.
pi is an open-source coding agent that works with your own model keys. Murage runs it as an engine. It's listed as pi.
pi keeps its own provider keys in its own settings. Murage holds no key for it and there's no sign-in step in Murage: whatever providers you've set up in pi are the models your pi bots can use.
When to use it
- You already use pi with your own keys.
- You want a local model with a full set of tools.
- You want a bot that can control a USB-connected Android phone on a keys-only setup.
Install
- Open Settings → Engines and find pi.
- If it says Not detected, choose Open install in Terminal. Murage opens Terminal with this command ready to paste:
npm install -g @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent
This needs Node.js and npm.
- Set up at least one provider in pi itself, following pi's own guide (View setup guide).
- Back in Murage, choose Check again.
What works
- Tools: handing work to other bots, memory search, connected apps, cloud and local computers, this computer (pi shows its own approval prompt, which Murage turns into an approval card) and a USB-connected Android phone.
- Pictures you attach reach pi as a file it opens with its own file reader.
- Model picking: the models pi reports as available, shown as provider and model, plus local models from Settings → Models → Local models. You can switch the model within a conversation.
- Effort: set in Bot settings → Model. Higher levels only apply on models that support them; otherwise pi keeps its default.
When you pick a local model for a pi bot, Murage adds that server to pi's own models file (~/.pi/agent/models.json) so pi can reach it.
Approvals
A pi bot asks Murage before it runs a command, edits outside its folder or uses a connected app. It follows the same approval levels, stop line and Always allow choices. See Permissions and the stop line.
Known limits
- No custom MCP servers and no built-in browser. pi doesn't take Murage's custom MCP servers or the built-in browser.
- No engine commands in the
/menu. Only Murage's own commands appear for pi bots. - No Flux Router tiers. pi uses its own providers.
- Voice calls need Flux Router credits or your own voice keys.
Troubleshooting
"pi CLI not found" Install pi, restart Murage, or choose Set CLI… and pick the program yourself.
The model list is empty pi has no providers set up. Add one in pi, then choose Check again. Or add a local server under Settings → Models → Local models.
A model fails Try the same model in pi on its own in a terminal. If it fails there too, check that provider's key in pi.
