Teach a skill: record a workflow
Record yourself doing a task once, review what Murage captured, and turn it into a skill your bots can run. Mac today, with /learn for Windows and Linux.
Murage runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and the recorder is for the Mac desktop app today. On the other two, teach the same thing in words with /learn, which is further down this page. Murage Cloud (coming soon) keeps the skills library without the recorder.
Before you record
Step 1
Check the switch
Teach a skill is on by default. If the recorder is missing from your menu, open SettingsSkills and look for Teach a skill at the top. A switch you turned off stays off until you turn it on.
You're done when: Teach a skill is on.
Step 2
Add a transcription key
The recorder needs speech-to-text for your narration. Open SettingsTranscription, paste your AssemblyAI API key and save it. The line reads Connected. You can paste a new key over it or clear it later.
Without the key, the recorder stops you with Add your AssemblyAI key under Cloud transcription before recording.
You're done when: the Transcription section shows Connected.
This key is separate from a bot's own voice. A bot's voice lives under Bot settingsVoice & alerts, and that one does not need this key.
Record the task
Step 1
Open the recorder
Open the menu on your name in the sidebar and choose Teach a skill.
You're done when: you see Record yourself doing the task.
Step 2
Do the task, and say what you are doing
Start recording, then work through the task the way you normally would. Speak as you go: "now I open the invoice, copy the total into the sheet". Murage lines up your clicks, app changes, screenshots and narration. Stop when the task is done.
A recording of one clean run teaches better than a recording with three false starts in it. If you fumble, stop and start over.
You're done when: the recording has stopped and the review opens.
Step 3
Review it
Go through the captured steps. Remove any step that shows something private, such as a customer's details on screen. Then create the skill.
You're done when: you have removed anything private and the skill is created.
Step 4
Choose the bots
Open SettingsSkills, open the new skill and switch it on for the bots that should use it.
You're done when: the skill shows as on for the bots you picked.
Run it
Skills that are on for a bot appear in the slash menu. In a chat with that bot, type / and pick the skill, or just ask for the task by name.
Then watch the first run.
Go back to an earlier version
Skills keep a version history, and so do routine instructions. Open the skill in SettingsSkills, or the routine in its editor, find the earlier version and choose Restore this version. Murage asks you to confirm.
Restoring affects future tasks. A task that is already running keeps the version it started with.
On Windows and Linux: /learn
The recorder refuses to start anywhere but the Mac desktop app, with Skill recording requires the Murage desktop app on macOS. Use /learn instead.
Step 1
Describe the job
In a chat with a bot, type /learn and walk it through the steps, in the order you do them. The bot writes the skill. Nothing is used until you choose Enable.
You're done when: a card asks you to Enable the new skill.
Step 2
Read it, then switch it on
Open SettingsSkills, read the new skill, fix anything the bot got wrong, and switch it on for the bots that should use it. Every skill a bot writes is checked by Skill Guard before use.
You're done when: the skill is on for the bots you chose.
