Uninstall and reset

Removing the Murage app doesn't remove your data. Your bots, conversations, memory and settings stay on your computer until you delete them yourself. That's deliberate: reinstalling picks up where you left off.

Before you delete anything#

• Take a backup if there's any chance you'll want your bots back: Settings → Backups → Back up now.
• Export teams you want to keep or share: + → Export bots….
• Quit Murage fully, including from the menu bar or system tray, before you move or delete its folders.

Just want to run setup again?#

You don't need to reset for that. Settings → General → Get set up runs the guided setup again. Your Chief of Staff picks it up where you left it, and everything already done stays done.

Uninstall the app#

Mac: quit Murage, then drag Murage from Applications to the Trash.

Windows: open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Murage, and choose Uninstall.

Ubuntu .deb:

sudo apt remove murage

Ubuntu AppImage: delete the Murage.AppImage file.

Where your data lives#

Murage keeps almost everything in one folder, .murage, in your home folder:

• Mac: ~/.murage (hidden; in Finder press Cmd+Shift+. to show it)
• Windows: C:\Users\you\.murage
• Ubuntu: ~/.murage

It holds your settings, bots, conversations, memory, bot working folders, attachments and logs.

The desktop app also keeps a small app-data folder for window state, browser profiles and your encrypted keys. On Ubuntu it's ~/.config/murage. On Mac and Windows it's the Murage folder in your system's standard application data location.

These live elsewhere and aren't removed with Murage:

• Your backups and recovery key, in the folders you chose.
• Engines you installed, such as Claude Code or Codex, and their sign-ins.
• Local VM containers in Docker or Podman.
• Tailscale, if you installed it for phone access.
• Your Telegram bot, Slack app or Discord bot, which live in those services.

Remove everything

1. Quit Murage.
2. Uninstall the app (above).
3. Delete the .murage folder.
4. Delete the app-data folder, if you want window state, browser profiles and saved keys gone too.
5. Optionally, revoke anything you connected: delete your Telegram bot in BotFather, remove your Slack or Discord app, disconnect apps in Flux Router or in the account behind your own connected-apps key, and delete Local VM containers.

Deleting the folders can't be undone unless you have a backup.

Start fresh without losing the old setup

If you want a clean Murage but aren't sure you're done with the old one, don't delete: rename.

1. Quit Murage.
2. Rename .murage to something like .murage-old.
3. Open Murage. It starts as a new install.

To go back, quit Murage, delete the new .murage, and rename .murage-old back.

Saved keys are protected by your operating system and tied to the app, so a renamed folder may ask you to enter keys again when you switch back.

Restore on a new computer

Don't copy the .murage folder by hand between computers. Protected credentials don't move that way, and a copy taken while Murage is running can be inconsistent. Use Settings → Backups and Restore… instead, and keep your recovery key somewhere secure. See Backups and export.

Legacy folders

Very early builds stored data in a folder called .opengrokbot. Murage moves that data into .murage the first time it starts.
