Grok Build
Run bots on xAI's Grok Build command-line agent with your own Grok sign-in.
Grok Build is xAI's command-line coding agent. Murage runs it as an engine with your own Grok sign-in. In Settings → Engines and the model list it's called Grok; its commands appear under Grok Build.
Grok is a trademark of its owner. Murage isn't affiliated with xAI.
When to use it
- You already use Grok and want your bots on it.
- You want Grok's models with Murage's tools, including handing work to other bots.
- You want to run a local model through Grok Build.
Install and sign in
Grok Build has a one-line installer for macOS and Linux.
- Open Settings → Engines and find Grok.
- If it says Not detected, choose Open install in Terminal. Murage opens Terminal with this command ready to paste:
curl -fsSL https://x.ai/cli/install.sh | bash
- If the status says Detected · sign-in required, choose Open sign-in in Terminal. The command is:
grok login
- Back in Murage, choose Check again.
On Windows there's no one-line installer. Murage says so and offers View setup guide instead.
What works
- Tools: Murage's tools, including handing work to other bots, memory search, your own MCP servers, connected apps, the built-in browser, and cloud and local computers. Control of this computer is offered when Grok Build asks before each action.
- Model picking: Grok Build's own models and local models from Settings → Models → Local models.
- Effort: low, medium and high in Bot settings → Model. These are the levels every Grok model in the list accepts.
- Engine commands: type
/to see Grok Build's own commands next to Murage's. They load once a chat has started.
Known limits
- No pictures. Grok Build in Murage doesn't take attached images. A bot on it will say it can't see a picture and ask you to describe it.
- No Flux Router. Grok Build only talks to xAI's own service, so the Flux Router tiers aren't offered for it.
- A Grok subscription doesn't pay for voice calls. Voice needs Flux Router credits or your own voice keys, such as an xAI key.
Troubleshooting
"Grok CLI is not signed in" Run grok login in a terminal, then choose Check again.
"grok CLI not found" Install Grok Build, restart Murage, or choose Set CLI… and pick the grok program yourself.
"Grok session could not be restored. Reload the conversation before continuing." Reload the conversation. If it keeps happening, start a new conversation.
"Grok provider binding changed. Reload the conversation before continuing." The model or account behind the conversation changed while it was open. Reload it.
An effort level seems ignored Some Grok models accept fewer levels. Murage only offers the ones every model accepts, but an older Grok Build may still fall back to its default.
