Phone and web app

Murage can open in the browser on your phone, a tablet or another laptop. You see the same bots, conversations and approvals as on your computer. There's nothing to install from an app store: you scan a code and Murage opens, signed in.

Your computer does the work. It has to be on, awake and running Murage. The browser is a window onto it.

Tailscale or the same Wi-Fi#

• Tailscale (recommended). Tailscale is a free private network for your own devices. Install it on your computer and your phone, sign both in to the same account (your "tailnet"), and turn on MagicDNS. Your phone then reaches Murage from anywhere, and nothing is exposed to the public internet.
• Same Wi-Fi. Without Tailscale, a device on the same network as your computer can pair directly. It only works at home or in the office, on a network that lets devices see each other. If your computer isn't on Wi-Fi, you'll see "Direct Wi-Fi pairing isn't available on this computer right now."

When Tailscale is on the computer, Murage uses it for pairing. Otherwise it uses your local network.

1. Turn on the WebUI#

1. On your computer, open Settings → Phone. The phone status button in the sidebar opens the same place.
2. Switch on Enable WebUI. This runs the part of Murage that answers other devices. When it's off, nothing listens.

The steps at the top track your progress: Open the browser door, Get the address, Reach it from anywhere. Once it's on, the Access URL shows the address other devices use, with a copy button.

If Tailscale was installed or signed in after Murage started, choose Check Tailscale again.

2. Pair a device#

1. Under Sign in on another device, choose Show me the code. If a device is already paired, the button reads Add another device.
2. On your phone, point the camera at the QR code. Murage opens in the phone's browser, signed in.
3. No camera, or pairing a laptop? Open the address Murage shows in that device's browser and type the six-digit code.

Each code signs in one device, then it's spent. It expires after 10 minutes. Five wrong tries also use it up. Choose the refresh button beside it for a new one.

If the QR code opens inside another app's built-in browser, open the link in Safari or Chrome instead. The sign-in won't carry over, and the code only works once.

3. Add it to your home screen

Murage installs as a web app. On iPhone, open the Share menu in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android, use the Chrome menu. It then opens full screen like an app.

Optional: allow remote access

Allow remote access puts your tailnet's own HTTPS address in front of Murage, so the link has no port to type and works in any browser. Murage asks first (Serve Murage on your tailnet?), then you choose Serve on my tailnet.

This uses tailscale serve, which is tailnet-only and never Tailscale Funnel. Nothing is published to the public internet. Any device signed in to your tailnet can open the address and sign in with a code. It stays on, even after a restart, until you switch it off.

If Tailscale isn't installed, the switch explains that there's no secure address to serve. If something else already uses Tailscale's HTTPS port, Murage leaves it alone and tells you.

Manage your devices

• Paired devices lists every device that can use this Murage, with when it was added and last seen.
• Recent activity shows when each device last reached your computer.
• Revoke a device to end its sessions straight away.
• Allow computer view gives that device full interactive access to a bot's computer view. Turn it on only for devices you trust.

A device that isn't used for 60 days is signed out and needs a new code.

What the phone can do

• Chat with any bot, start tasks and read every conversation.
• Answer approvals and questions, and use the Inbox.
• See routines, and ask a bot to propose one for your review.
• View connected apps and usage.

What stays on the desktop

Some things can only be done on the computer running Murage:

• Turning on Full access or No limits, or changing Full access options. You'll see "Full access can only be turned on in the Murage desktop app."
• Phone setup, pairing and revoking devices.
• API keys, engines, models, messaging apps, skills, House Rules, the Local VM, backups and experimental settings.
• Connecting apps and MCP tools, setting up webhooks, and creating or changing routine schedules.
• Importing and exporting teams, and managing workspace memory.
• Voice calls.

Troubleshooting

• "Tailscale isn't signed in on this computer yet.": install Tailscale, sign in, then choose Check Tailscale again.
• "Tailscale pairing isn't available right now. Make sure Tailscale is connected and MagicDNS is on.": check both in the Tailscale app on your computer.
• "The browser door isn't listening yet.": wait a moment. Make sure Enable WebUI is on.
• "No address yet; the door is starting, or Tailscale is not up on this computer.": give it a few seconds, or bring Tailscale up.
• "That code expired": create a new code on the computer.
• "Too many attempts. Try again in...": wait for the countdown, or create a new code.
• "Could not reach Murage. It may have stopped on your computer.": check the computer is awake and Murage is running. On Tailscale, check the phone is signed in to the same tailnet.
• "pair this device from Phone settings in Murage on your computer": this device's sign-in ended or was revoked. Pair it again.
• The phone can't load the address on Wi-Fi: some networks (guest Wi-Fi, many offices) block devices from seeing each other. Use Tailscale.

Good to know

• There's no native iPhone or Android app yet; one is coming. Today the browser is the phone app.
• Your phone talks to your own computer, not a Murage server, when you pair over Tailscale or Wi-Fi.
• The first-run welcome may also offer to email you a one-time code to set up secure access from anywhere. That route signs you in through Murage's account service. See Privacy and usage analytics.
• Routines and bots keep running on the computer. If it sleeps, they wait.
