Windows notes

Murage runs on 64-bit Windows (x64). Most features work the same as on a Mac. A few aren't available on Windows yet, and this page lists them so you're not left looking.

Installing#

Download the Windows installer and run it. It installs Murage for your user account only, with no administrator prompt. The installer is signed.

Windows on ARM isn't a supported download in this release.

Engines on Windows#

Engines such as Claude Code and Codex install through a one-line command that Murage opens for you when you pick the engine. After installing, sign in to the engine in the window it opens, then return to Murage. The bundled Fuigo engine needs no install, only a model (a Flux Router or provider key).

If an engine isn't found after installing it, restart Murage so it picks up the new program. See Troubleshooting engines.

The system tray#

Murage adds an icon to the system tray with a count of what needs you. From it you can approve or deny ordinary requests, see what bots are doing, start New message to a bot and Check for updates. Stop-line requests and bigger reviews open the app. If you don't see the icon, check the hidden icons arrow on the taskbar.

Voices, dictation and calls#

• Built-in Windows voices are free and need no key. Choose them in Bot settings → Voice & alerts.
• Dictation: hold to talk, and a Flux Router transcription comes back.
• Calls work on Windows. Murage hears you through Flux Router, or your own Groq or OpenAI key, about 1.5 to 3 seconds after you stop speaking, without live words on screen.

Allow microphone access for Murage in Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone if Windows blocked it.

Computers: what works on Windows#

• Local VM works. Each bot can have its own Linux desktop in a container. On Windows, Podman is the recommended container tool.
• Cloud computer (Box) and your own VPS work, because the computer runs elsewhere.
• This computer (letting a bot control your own Windows screen) isn't available yet.
• The built-in browser isn't available on Windows yet. It's switched off on Windows until it runs reliably there. Bots can still search the web, and a Local VM desktop includes a browser.

Backups#

Backups and off-site copies work on Windows, including standard accounts, names with spaces, deep folders and roaming profiles. Also back up when Murage is closed isn't available on Windows yet, so backups run while Murage is open.

Choose a local folder for backups. A network folder or a USB stick is refused, because Windows can't lock those down to your account. SFTP off-site copies use Windows' own OpenSSH Client; if it's missing, add it under Settings → System → Optional features.

Memory search

The local model for smart memory search is available on Windows x64. Download it from the workspace memory settings.

Where Murage keeps things

• Your data: the .murage folder in your user folder, for example C:\Users\you\.murage.
• Your encrypted keys: protected by Windows' own data protection for your account.

Updating

Murage tells you when an update is ready. Choose Download, then Restart to update when you're ready. See Updating Murage.

Uninstalling

Remove Murage from Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Your data folder stays until you delete it. See Uninstall and reset.
