Give a bot a face, a voice and a personality
Generate an avatar, choose a voice and write a personality so each bot is easy to tell apart.
Every bot has its own name, face, voice and personality. Out of the box its face is a flame mascot. This tutorial makes one bot recognizable in a few minutes.
Open the bot's chat and click its avatar at the top left of the chat to open Bot settings.
1. The face
In Overview, find the avatar card. You have three choices:
- Keep the flame mascot and change its color, expression and body shape.
- Upload image: PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP up to 10 MB. You can also drop an image on the avatar.
- Generate avatar: Murage draws a portrait from the bot's name, title and instructions.
To generate one:
- Optionally type a direction in the box, up to 400 characters, for example "a calm navigator".
- Choose Generate avatar.
Generating uses Flux Router. Without Flux Router, paste your own OpenAI image API key in the card instead. Portraits are illustrated, not photos, and never show a real, identifiable person.
The direction only changes how the bot looks. It doesn't change how it talks. Choose Shape to show the avatar as a circle, a rounded square or a square.
2. The personality
Open Identity & instructions. There are two different fields, and it matters which is which:
- Instructions: the bot's job, what it should know and how to work. Its teammates read this when they decide who to hand work to, so keep it about the job.
- Personality: how the bot talks, up to 280 characters. For example: "Direct, a little snarky, dry wit. Skip the pleasantries." Only the bot reads it.
Personality changes the bot's tone in every reply. To check what the bot reads, open What shapes it in the same settings window.
3. The voice
Open Voice & alerts.
- Under Voice engine, pick where the voice comes from: Flux, xAI, ElevenLabs, or your computer's built-in voices on Mac and Windows.
- Pick a Voice. Press the play button next to any voice to hear it first.
- Turn on Read replies aloud if you want the bot to speak every reply.
Flux gives you 41 voices, each with a name, an accent and a short description. Pick a different one for each bot and a group call sounds like a team. See Voice for what each option needs.
