Murage setup guide
From download to your first finished job, in five steps. No technical knowledge needed.
Murage runs on a Mac, Windows or Ubuntu. Ember, your AI Chief of Staff, builds and runs a team of AI bots on the AI you already use.
Which one are you?
Starting from nothing is fine. Murage needs something to think with, and there are three ways to give it that. Pick the one that sounds like you.
I already pay for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok
At step 2 you check that Murage found your tool and your sign-in. Your subscription and its limits stay as they are.
Go to step 2I have no AI account yet
At step 2 you use the built-in Fuigo engine. Give it a Flux Router key, which is optional, or a model key.
Go to step 2I want the AI to run on my own computer
At step 2 you run a model on your computer, then add it to Murage. Model processing stays on your hardware.

What you need
A computerA Mac, a 64-bit Windows PC or Ubuntu 24.04 on x64.
About 10 minutesThat is how long the welcome with Ember takes. You can skip any step and come back.
Something for your bots to think withAn AI you already use, or the built-in Fuigo engine with a key. Step 2 covers both.
A phone, if you want oneOptional. About five minutes at your computer to pair Telegram. Your computer has to be on with Murage running.
Plain words
- Ember
- Your Chief of Staff, the first bot you talk to. It builds and runs a team of other bots for you. You can rename it.
- A bot
- An AI helper with its own name, job, engine, memory, skills and permissions.
- An engine
- The AI that does a bot's thinking, such as Claude Code, Codex or the built-in Fuigo. You bring your own sign-in or key.
- The stop line
- The few things a bot stops before: messaging anyone new, posting publicly, paying, or deleting outside its folder.
Install Murage
Murage is free. It runs on a Mac, a Windows PC or Ubuntu.
Mac
Download the version for your chip, Apple silicon or Intel. Open the .dmg, drag Murage to Applications, then open it.
Windows
Download the installer for 64-bit Windows and run it. Murage installs for your user account. Open it from the Start menu.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu 24.04 on x64. Download the .deb package or the AppImage from the download page, then follow the two commands in the install guide.
- 1Download
- 2Install
- 3Open Murage
Murage keeps your bots, conversations and memory in a folder called .murage in your home folder. Updating the app does not touch it.
Pick the AI that does the thinking
Murage does not come with its own AI account. Each bot thinks with an engine you connect, and you only need one.
If you use ChatGPT
Murage looks for Codex, the tool that goes with ChatGPT, on your computer. Open Settings > Engines. If it is signed in, you see Detected · signed in. If it is not, sign in once in a terminal, or let the welcome show you the one command to run.
If you have nothing
Fuigo comes in the box, so there is nothing to install. In the welcome, paste a Flux Router key when Ember asks (or choose I need a key to open the sign-up page). That is the step that gives your bots a brain. You can also add a model key later in Settings > Models.
Check it worked
Open Settings > Engines. A tool you signed in to shows Detected · signed in. The built-in Fuigo shows Included · connected.
If a tool is not signed in yet, sign in once in a terminal, or let the welcome in the next step show you the one command to run.
Do your first job with Ember
The first time you open Murage, you land in a chat with Ember, your Chief of Staff. Ember walks you through five short steps along the top of the window.
- 1. Who you are. Your name, and your email if you want to give it. Both can be skipped.
- 2. What is here. Ember lists the AI tools it found. Choose Help me sign in if one needs it.
- 3. Switch it on. Paste a Flux Router key, or skip it. If nothing on your computer can think yet, this step gives your bots a brain.
- 4. First chat. Ember offers five jobs, such as Brief me every morning or Make sense of these notes, each tagged with what it needs. Or just tell Ember what you need.
- 5. Do the thing. Pick a job and Ember does it right away.
Things to try first
Not sure what to say? Copy one into the message box. Some jobs need an app connected first, and Ember tells you which.
- Brief me every morning
- Organise my day
- Make sense of these notes. I will paste them in my next message.
- Look into something for me: how do my three closest competitors describe what they sell?
- Watch my competitors and tell me when something changes
- Draft replies to the emails in my inbox that need an answer
You can skip any step and come back. Type /setup in any message box to return to the welcome. Anything that runs on a schedule arrives switched off or asks you first.
Decide how much your bots ask first
Every conversation runs at an approval level. It decides how often a bot stops to ask you.
Try it: pick a level
Example request
Ember wants to email a new client a quote.
Stops and waits for you
Ember writes the quote, then stops and asks before it sends anything. You choose Approve once or Deny.
The stop line: a bot stops before messaging anyone new, posting publicly, paying, or deleting outside its folder, unless you have allowed it for that task. Full access and No limits can only be turned on in the desktop app. Keep a bot on Ask for anything where a mistake would really hurt.
Pair your phone
Your computer does the work, so it has to be on with Murage running. Your phone is how you reach it from anywhere.
Example chat. Your pairing code will differ. - 1Create a bot with BotFather in Telegram and copy its token.
- 2Paste the token in Settings > Messaging apps and choose Pair with Chief.
- 3Send the pairing command to your bot. When it says Connected, you are done.
- 4Message Ember, and approve or deny requests with a tap.
The whole app: your phone's browser
In Settings > Phone, switch on Enable WebUI, choose Show me the code, and point your phone camera at the QR code. Murage opens in the browser, signed in. Add it to your home screen to open it like an app. Tailscale on both devices is recommended; the same Wi-Fi also works.
