CLIPPING MASKS (essential technique): A clipping mask clips one layer to the content of the layer below it. Paint a flat silhouette on Layer A. Create Layer B above it, set as clipping mask. Now painting on Layer B only appears within the silhouette of Layer A. This is how you add shading and detail without worrying about edges.
