Muse, Grok Bot, Dots, Cue and Instinct: the alternative that runs on your computer

Muse, Grok Bot, Dots, Cue and Instinct each run an agent on a cloud computer someone else owns. Murage runs a team, led by a Chief of Staff, on your computer, on the AI plan you already pay for. Here are all six side by side, with where each one is ahead.

Control

  • Asks before acting

MurageNew bots start on Ask. On Full access, a bot stops before messaging anyone new, posting publicly, paying, or deleting outside its folder, unless you have allowed it for that task. Which should you pick?

By what you need most. Where a rival is ahead, it says so.

  • If you need

A team led by a Chief of Staff, on your computer, on the AI plan you already pay for

    Murage

Ember builds the team for each job and runs it on your computer. Each bot runs on the engine you choose, and the app is free and open source.

  • If you need

Agents that keep working with your computer off, today

Grok Bot, Muse, Dots, Cue or Instinct

All five hosted products run on a cloud computer (Muse, Dots and Instinct are reported by press). Murage runs while your computer is on and Murage is open; Murage Cloud is not open yet.

  • If you need

    Starting outside the US

    Murage

Muse is rolling out in the US, and Dots skips the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK on Pro. Murage runs on your computer, so it has no country list.

  • If you need

Agents with their own phone number, email and wallet

    Cue

Each Cue agent has its own, can take your calls and pays within a budget you set. Murage has no per-agent phone number, email or wallet.

    Full comparison
  • If you need

An assistant you text or call

    Instinct

You text or call it and it works from a cloud computer. Murage starts with a download and an AI sign-in.

    Full comparison
  • If you need

You already pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium

    Dots, or Murage with Codex

Your first dot is included in the plan. Murage can also run on that same ChatGPT plan through Codex.

    Full comparison
  • If you need

You already pay for Cursor or SuperGrok

Grok Bot, or Murage with Grok Build

Grok Bot is included with paid Cursor plans and linked SuperGrok accounts. Murage runs Grok Build as a bot engine.

    Full comparison
  • If you need

A personal agent in a browser or WhatsApp, in the US

    Muse

Nothing to install, free for most uses, and one-time cards for purchases through Link by Stripe.

    Full comparison
  • If you need

The app free, open source, with memory and files on your own computer

    Murage

AGPL-3.0, and your team’s memory and files stay on your computer. Grok Bot, Dots and Cue are closed source, and their memory lives on their side.

What each one does well.

Fair’s fair. These are the reasons to pick them, in their own column’s terms.

Meta Muse

  • It works with your computer off

Muse runs on a cloud computer and keeps going after you close the app. Murage runs while your computer is on, until Murage Cloud opens.

  • Nothing to install to try it

Muse is on iOS, Android, the web and WhatsApp, and it is free for most of what people need.

  • Built-in checkout with one-time cards

Muse pays through Link by Stripe, which creates a one-time-use card so your real card details stay hidden.

  • Meta’s reach

It lives where many people already are, including WhatsApp, and Meta says it is coming to AI glasses.

Murage vs Meta Muse
Grok Bot logo

Grok Bot

  • It runs while your laptop is closed

Grok Bot keeps working on a cloud computer with your laptop closed. Murage runs while your computer is on, until Murage Cloud opens.

  • Learns by watching

Show a Grok Bot a workflow once and it saves it as a routine. Murage learns from your corrections, not by watching you work.

  • Native desktop and phone apps

Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. Murage reaches your phone through its web app and your Chief in Telegram, Slack, Discord or WhatsApp. Its iPhone and Android app is coming.

  • A chief of staff over specialists, too

Grok Bot’s launch describes a chief of staff bot over a specialist for each lane.

  • Enterprise controls

Its security page lists network policy, audit logs and Auto Review for Enterprise teams.

Murage vs Grok Bot
OpenAI Dots logo

OpenAI Dots

  • More apps

Dots reach 4,000+ apps through OpenAI’s plugins (reported). That is more than Murage’s 1,500+, which Murage adds to with any public API or MCP.

  • It works with your computer off

Each dot has its own cloud computer you can open and watch. Murage runs while your computer is on, until Murage Cloud opens.

  • Inside ChatGPT, Slack and Teams

You can message a dot in ChatGPT, and in Slack, and reportedly in Teams, next to the work you already do there.

  • Learn-by-doing from feedback

Dots learn how you like to work. Murage learns from corrections too, but does not learn a workflow by watching you.

Murage vs OpenAI Dots
Cue by Manus logo

Cue by Manus

  • Each agent has its own phone, email and wallet

Cue agents can message from their own address, take your calls and pay within a budget you set. Murage has no per-agent phone number, email or wallet.

  • Works with your laptop closed

Each Cue agent has its own computer. Murage runs while your computer is on, until Murage Cloud opens.

  • Everyday errands

Cue agents can order at a restaurant or hold your place in line after you scan a QR code.

Murage vs Cue by Manus

Instinct

  • Text or call from any phone

Instinct meets you where you already message, with iMessage reported by the press. Murage has no iMessage; you reach your Chief of Staff in the app, on the web, and in Telegram, Slack, Discord or WhatsApp.

  • It works while your computer is off

Instinct runs in the cloud. Murage runs while your computer is on, until Murage Cloud opens.

  • Nothing to install to try it

Instinct starts from a text message. Murage is a desktop app you download.

Murage vs Instinct

Murage

  • A team led by a Chief of Staff

Ember takes the brief, builds the team of specialist bots and runs it on your computer.

  • The engine you choose

Fuigo (built in), Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, Grok Build and more, on the plan you already pay for.

  • Free and open source

AGPL-3.0, with memory, files and conversations on your computer.

  • Lessons you can see, edit and undo

Corrections become lessons you can read, change or take back, and projects split a job into cards on a board.

Questions about the five.

Which of these keeps working with my computer off?

Today the five hosted products do: Grok Bot (its docs say closing the app, your laptop or your phone does not stop a background turn), Cue (each agent has its own computer), and Muse, Dots and Instinct as reported by press. Murage runs while your computer is on and Murage is open. Murage Cloud, which will keep your team working with your computer off, is not open yet.

Which of these are open source?

Murage is open source under AGPL-3.0. Grok Bot, Dots and Cue are closed source. Meta’s launch posts describe no open-source release of Muse, and Instinct does not say.

Which work outside the US?

Murage works wherever your computer is. Muse is rolling out in the US. Dots is rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, and to Business Premium users in supported regions. Grok Bot, Cue and Instinct do not state a region in the pages we read.

Can I use my existing Claude, ChatGPT or Grok plan?

With Murage, yes: each bot can run on Claude Code, Codex or Grok Build with the plan you already pay for, or on a local model or your own API key. Dots need a ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium plan, Muse runs on Meta’s own model (reported), and Grok Bot, Cue and Instinct do not say which AI they run.

Do I need an invite?

Cue needs an invite code during early access. Murage needs none: download it and start. Muse and Dots are rolling out gradually, and Instinct sits behind a login page; Grok Bot is in beta on paid Cursor and SuperGrok plans.

Which one gives each agent its own phone number?

Cue does: each agent has its own email, phone number and wallet. Murage has no per-agent phone number, email or wallet; you can call your own bots in the app, and your team works through your accounts and apps.

Where do I start with Murage?

Download the app, pick the engine for your first bot, meet Ember and give it a first job. New bots ask before they act.

Can my staff use it too?

Yes. Each person runs Murage on their own computer, with their own AI sign-in. Build a team once, export it, and everyone imports the same bots, skills and routines; logins never travel. Bots can post drafts to your team’s Slack channels through connected apps, with your approval. Shared workspaces that run with your computer off will come with Murage Cloud, which isn’t open yet.
